Nina's Nightmare — Emperor Velo Time Trial (CTR: Nitro-Fueled)

Velo Time: 1:53:98 My Time: 1:52:07 Full playlist:    • CTR Nitro-Fueled — Emperor Velo XXVII...   The fourth bonus track has you back at the ghost-filled lichyard known as Nina's Nightmare. The cramped hallway at the end is still there, but this time we have air brake on our side to make it much more manageable (detailed below). My Oxide time was just enough to squeak by Velo, and since I didn't know about air brake at the time, it technically isn't required to clear Velo's trial. However, it's always useful if you know the right spots to use it, and this track is no exception. For those unfamiliar with this technique, you'll want it in your arsenal as it's the key to beating several of Velo's trials, and to just being an above average player in general. As this technique is better illustrated than described, see the link below for how to do it. He has the controller inputs embedded in the video that light up in timing with his movements on screen, so it's super easy to see what's going on. The video shows a PS4 controller but I'm on Xbox One and can confirm it works with either the joystick or the D-pad. I personally prefer the joystick due to the Xbox One controller's layout, but use whichever feels more natural to you.    • CTR NF - alt U-turn inputs   This time around, I try to hug the inside corners a bit better and avoid any unnecessary slides. This track is actually quite generous with reserves so you shouldn't feel the need to constantly replenish them. You can coast every once in awhile to make sure your line is as direct as possible. I still take a left at the split, and for the hallway, I power slide in there once or twice but air brake around the second corner. The above, combined with better knowledge of the track since release, allowed me to trim my Oxide time by about two seconds, putting me two seconds ahead of Velo. This one really isn't too bad if you've already mastered the hallway section. The rest of the track is relatively open, giving you plenty of room to maneuver. Let's move on to Koala Carnival.
