About our Fellowships The Africa Institute, Global Studies University, is a center for research, documentation, study, and teaching of Africa and its diaspora in the humanities and social sciences. It hosts a range of senior and postdoctoral fellowships through its Research Fellowships Program. Conceived as a research-based think tank and postgraduate institution, the Institute offers master’s and Ph.D. programs aimed at training a new generation of critical thinkers in African and African diaspora studies, while developing new models for research and documentation in the field. Senior and postdoctoral fellowships are named in honor of leading figures in African and diaspora thought: the late Toni Morrison, Ali A. Mazrui, Okwui Enwezor, and Fatema Mernissi.
