(20 Jul 1995) English/Nat The Cambodian Embassy to the US reopened in Washington Thursday, after having been shut down for 20 years. The US refused to recognize the Vietnamese-installed government that followed the Vietnam war, but with a new democratically elected administration in place, diplomatic relations are being normalized. SOUNDBITE: "It has been more than 20 years since this flag has flown in this capital city. This simple ceremony closes a tragic chapter in our nation's history." SUPER CAPTION: SOUNDBITE: "We look forward to working closely with our Cambodian friends, we will maintain our support for Cambodia's struggle for democracy and security and prosperity and this will be underlined by the fact that the Secretary of State is traveling over there in the next couple of weeks."
