'Turn the other cheek' is one of the most famous - and misunderstood - tenets of the Christian faith. It can be found in the gospel of Matthew 5:38-41, within the famous section known as ‘The Sermon on the Mount.’ The late Walter Wink - a Bible scholar and theologian with a very influential voice in the Christian theology of nonviolence - helps us to understand the meaning of this phrase in it's original context, using a role play recorded in this clip. He believes that Jesus was pointing to a third way of responding to injustice and oppression: not fight, not flight, but an active, nonviolent challenge to the oppressor.
