Low input varieties of KWS need less water, nitrogen and chemical crop protection to perform well. Climate change brings increasing heat and drought and faces farmers around the world with challenges. With its so-called “Low-input varieties,” KWS is making an important contribution to more sustainable, resource-friendly agriculture: "Essentially, the aim is to achieve more efficient use of the available amount of water and thus improve drought stress tolerance," explains Pascal Schopp, Head of Corn Breeding Europe “Mid-Early/Mid-Late” at KWS. But the varieties not only manage with less water, but also with less nitrogen and chemical crop protection: “Our goal is to breed varieties that deliver high and stable yields even when they experience climate stress and receive less fertilizer,” says Christof Bolduan, Head of Corn Breeding Europe “Early” at KWS.
