Whangamata weekend! | Kayak to donut island, Pokehino beach

Whangamata is a small town on the southeast coast of the Coromandel, about an hour and a half North of Tauranga known for its beautiful beaches and offshore islands. The most famous of these is Whenuakura, also known as Donut Island due to its large collapsed blow hole which has formed a small beach inside the island, accessible by kayak through a sea cave. Beside its natural attractions, Whangamata has some great bars, restaurants and cafes, and a brewery that are well worth a visit. On this trip we stayed in the Pop Top rooftop apartment (available on AirBnb), and had an amazing time out and about. Easily accessible from Tauranga, give Whamgamata some thought for your next visit to the Coromandel!
