This is a quick demo / long clip of the Roland RE-501 to showcase the different sounds it can do because some people were really curious to hear it. To be clear: this isn't about playing, this is purely about the repeats and such, hence why I let chords ring out often and I'm just noodling a bit. I've been looking for this tape delay for such a long time and when I finally found it, I first wasn't really that happy with it, but further down that week, I sat down with it, and I found that it does a great shimmering tape delay sound with the bass rolled off a little and the treble pumped up. (kind of like an Echoplex EP-3) I had the RE-201 Space Echo as well and this thing is so much better than the RE-201, which I thought was rather overhyped. The sound of the RE-501 seems a little different and the reverb is a spring reverb, but seems to sound different than the RE-201's. The analog chorus is lovely as well. The combination of the EQ and all the effects is so huge, because the EQ sits last in the effected signal, effecting the chorus, the delay and the reverb. The combinations are endless. The entire clip is just my Fender '08 California Series Stratocaster with my 70ies MXR Dyna Comp Block Logo (Script innards) into the RE-501 (which is hooked up to my RJM Music Effects Gizmo MIDI True Bypass Looper) and into the rest of my rig (which you can find below). I start off with the clean sound and switch between my clean sound and the RE-501. You can hear the unit does not mess with your tone and does not add noise! This is definitely a piece of studio gear! The rest are various sounds using the different modes, the chorus, the reverb and the EQ. You can hear the character of the delay and how slowing down the motor affects the fidelity of the delay. Granted: I like the slowed down delays with the treble up so you accentuate it. The natural modulation created is just gorgeous, in my opinion. In the last bit of the video I add the Neunaber WET reverb and the modded vintage EHX Electric Mistress. - - Gear used for recording: Shure SM57 PreSonus FirePod Ableton Live 6.01 Plugins: PSP Master Compressor - - Gear used: Guitar: Fender '08 California Series U.S.A.
