Spec one out in rosé-inspired Velvet Orchid Metallic paint like the one seen here on the 2025 BMW M4 Competition xDrive Convertible we recently had in for testing, and you’ve got yourself the perfect pairing for a chill day in Napa Valley with your closest oenophiles. Just make sure those valuable wine club bottles are secured, especially if your designated driver has a lead foot, because this soft-top As part of its midcycle refresh for the 2025 model year, the M4 Competition xDrive’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six now uncorks 523 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, 20 more horses than before, with torque unchanged. BMW snobs will quickly point out that the power increase only applies to xDrive all-wheel-drive models, and they’d be right. Regardless, that’s a healthy bump in our eyes, but apparently not enough of one for BMW to change its estimated 0–60-mph time of 3.6 seconds—the same number as the 2024 car with 20 fewer ponies. Our test car ended up smashing that estimate, blasting to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds before crossing the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds with a trap speed of 122.8 mph. With an effective launch control system and all-wheel-drive grip, the Velvet Orchid sprayed drop-top rockets off the line with little drama and lots of pull. Its eight-speed automatic is quick with the shifts, and its rowdy engine note pairs perfectly with its speed. Those numbers are about what we expected in the context of the recent M3 and M4 variants we’ve tested. For starters, the track-focused 2023 BMW M4 CSL packed more power (543 hp), but its rear-wheel-drive setup wasn’t as effective at putting that power down. Partly as a result, it posted the same 3.2 seconds to 60 mph as the M4 convertible, but the CSL’s weight and power advantage led to a quicker 11.1-second quarter mile (at 128.8 mph). Meanwhile, a 2022 BMW M3 Competition xDrive we tested needed just 3.0 seconds to run to 60 mph and 11.1 seconds (at 124.7 mph) for the quarter mile. The culprit here is most likely weight, with the M4 Competition xDrive Convertible (and all its soft top bits) tipping our scales at 4,256 pounds. That’s 357 and 666 pounds heftier than the M3 Competition xDrive and M4 CSL, respectiv #auto510 #automobile #cla #bmw #mercedes
