We're on the wild West Coast, well known for it's black sand beaches and rugged coast line. After sharing out cool little tiny house in Tauranga Bay (which you can see more of here ( https://geni.us/outthebay ) we're out to the seal colony at Cape Foulwind and on the way to the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. The Punakaiki Pancake Rocks are a crazy phenomenon believed to have occurred over the past 30 million years. They're one of those stock standard must-do things along the West Coast of New Zealand that has been repeated to us more than once (ok, 20+ times) so we didn't really have the highest expectations. The fact they'd be along an amazing black sand beach was a given, but having low expectations was maybe a good thing because they were awesome and the setup there was really well done. Wrapping the day up at Hokitika, the weather put some spoils on the evening plans, but even that couldn't stop us taking a walk in the rain to see the black sand beach there as well.
