Today, we're taking a look at the October Audio NVMBR fuzz pedal. This fuzz distortion/octave fuzz pedal features a simple one knob layout (master volume) and 2 modes via a toggle switch. One mode is a more distortion/fuzz mix and the other mode is an octave fuzz based on that classic sound you all know and love. Gear used: Guitar: Custom USA Fender Stratocaster w/ Bareknuckle Slow Hands Pickups Amp: Amplified Nation Wonderland Overdrive 50W head & 112β cab Mic: Shure SM7B Interface: Solid State Logic SSL2+ Camera: Canon Powershot G7 Mark II Website: https://octoberaudio.com From October Audio's site: This is an octave fuzz based on the early days of those shin ei types. I love the way the Ace Tone Fuzzmaster was full gain and the simplicity of the Kay fuzz tone. This one draws heavily from those two, but doesnβt include the mid-scoop like so many βsuper fuzzesβ. Instead, we have a switch to disable the octave, yielding a mean distortion that is not βtubeyβ to me, but more like some cranked early punk through a loud transistor amp. You may want to turn the volume down temporarily or bypass the pedal if flicking the toggle at loud volume- it may have a static pop. However, it doesnβt do that when you hold a note and toggle. In fact, thatβs a cool way to observe the 2 sounds. Since analog octave rules apply, hit a note near the 12th fret and flip the toggle- you should hear a clear upper octave come in and out. The octave mode adds exciting textures to power and simple chords, then gets a little crazy with big chords- the minors get mangled! Clean up- we biased the circuit so it can cleanup with guitar volume and the octave mode will become a green ringer type sound- very metallic and chimney. So you can create spooky or ambient passages (I like to fingerpick rolled off), then crank your volume and rage with the octave fuzz! WHAT: octave fuzz and punk distortion with ample volume on tap INSPIRATION: a nod to our love of late 60s octave fuzz CIRCUIT SAUCE: silicon transistors and clipping diodes, fuzz intensity set wide open, filtering AM radio & shrill high frequencies, no harsh clipping artifacts, and biased to clean up in the octave mode to a "ringer" type sound. SOUND: Ace Tone, Kay and Super fuzzes entered that chamber from The Fly and this fuzz emerged- a searing upper octave that sings near the 12th fret and creates interesting undertones from 2-3 string chords. Complex chords may be rendered completely gross, in the best possible way! A flick of the toggle gives a tough, 70s type distortion without any octave. Bolt mode- midrange-heavy upper octave; square wave mode- no octave, punk distortion that sounds not unlike a loud transistor amp First batch features 2 graphic options on a silver hammer tone paint finish. Tech 9V center negative power supply. Knob controls master volume. Toggle switches between upper octave fuzz or non-octave distortion.
