We’re heading into late July with solid summertime fishing on and around Long Beach Island. The New Jersey ocean waters are warm! Recent fishing has been a dependable mix of inshore and offshore opportunities for anglers. On the surf, fluke and kingfish remain a top target. A few small blues and a summertime striper is possible. In the bay and inlet areas, fluke and blue fishing has been consistent. Triggerfish and sheepshead are becoming more active around the inlet rocks and other nearshore structure. Look for both of these to stick around the next couple weeks and possibly right into fall. Crabbing and clamming continues to offer a fun, family-friendly option in the back bays. It’s a great way to introduce kids to the water and have something delicious to bring home. With warmer bay temperatures, the crabs have been active. Offshore reports of tuna are coming in from the canyons and mid-shore grounds. The bluefin bite has been hit-or-miss closer in, but those gearing up right and putting in the time are producing. There’s also cobia and mahi so keep a lookout for floating debris where they love to hang around. The fishing remains good from the beach to the bay to the bluewater, BUT the summertime is flying by. Stay hydrated, wear sun protection and enjoy the warm water while we have it. Get out there! Fishing report update for the Long Beach Island area brought to you by Greg at Fisherman’s Headquarters
