In this episode of The Sneaker Principal Podcast, I step into uncomfortable but necessary territory, global narratives, Nigeria, and the questions we’re not being encouraged to ask. Following recent reports of U.S.-approved airstrikes in northern Nigeria, I felt compelled to speak, not from a political pundit’s seat, but as an educator, historian-in-practice, and Nigerian by birth. Having lived in both northern and southern Nigeria, raised across religious lines, and descended from those directly impacted by the Nigerian Civil War, I bring personal context to a conversation often stripped of nuance. This episode explores why now, why Nigeria, why the framing of terrorism, and why global powers consistently enter regions rich in oil, minerals, and human capital under the banner of security or humanitarian concern. I unpack media narratives, historical patterns, population realities, and what is often omitted when Africa is discussed on the world stage. More importantly, I challenge educators and listeners to reflect on how poorly we teach modern history and current events, and the cost of raising generations who consume information without questioning its source, motive, or impact. This is not about defending violence or minimizing loss. It’s about intellectual honesty, historical literacy, and refusing to accept simplified stories about complex nations and peoples. I invite you to listen, reflect, and share your perspective. What are you seeing about your homeland, your region, or the world that isn’t being fully told?
