In this video I document the discovery, troubleshooting process and replacement of the stepper motor driver on the Tormach PCNC 1100 (Series 2). Naturally, the stepper motor driver failed on the last tool/operation before I completed a part. (Though if it had been most of the other tools for this part, it could have been a serious problem.) Please note that the original failed part was the X-axis stepper motor driver. During troubleshooting, I switched the X- and Y-axis drivers and never switched them back, so by the end of the video I'm replacing the Y-axis stepper motor driver. Tormach no longer carries the original stepper driver that came on my Series 2 PCNC 1100 (Tormach PN 30737). They have replaced it with a Leadshine part. Check the Tormach website for the current information. I opted against upgrading to the Tormach PCNC 1100 Series 3 Polyphase Leadshine stepper motor driver system now because I was in the middle of a time-critical batch of parts and couldn't afford a further delay. The upgrade will come later. Some very minor rewiring of the plug is required and the DIP switches must be set to the correct position. All of this is documented in the Tormach instructions that come with the replacement stepper driver. Quick set of basics for troubleshooting the Tormach stepper motor drive system: switching the ribbon cables between stepper drivers checks the hardware upstream of the stepper motor drivers switching stepper drivers between positions checks the driver itself
