UPY 711, an EMD GP15-1, and UP 531, an EMD GP38-2 run South on one of the remaining sections of the former Kenosha Rockford Railroad. This line was bought by the CNW and has since been known as the Kenosha Division, aka KD Line. Today the UP Local from Belvidere, IL. picked up a single tank car from Rock Valley Oil and Chemical. This is an "as needed" job, but seems to run at least once a week, sometimes once every two weeks dropping off or picking up one or two tank cars. Locations in the video: 1. Sinnissippi Park, near the "Symbol" 2. Street Running down Madison Street 3. Riverview Park, looking at the Rockford Park District's Trolley Station Because I handheld my camera, I ran the video through a stabilizer which is why there is some funky behavior with the video at times. Three sections are still in use that I know of, Near Kenosha, WI., near Harvard, IL and this section from Rockford to Loves Park, IL. Portions of the old right-of-way are still visible today even 70 years past abandonment, other sections are now bike trails. If you visit Rock Cut State Park, northeast of Rockford, IL. the old ROW travels at the bottom of what is now Pierce Lake. Two nice resources for the KD Line are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenosha_... http://www.abandonedrails.com/Kenosha... The odd way I found out about this movement was from a local noon newscast. When they returned from commercial brake to do the weather, they put up their river cam that was pointed south. They then mentioned that moments earlier it was the first time they saw a train cross the train bridge since this camera was put in place. I knew it was the UP they were talking about, so, I hopped on my bicycle and sped on down to the tracks, since automobile travel would not have been feasible for this. I arrived with about 3 minutes to spare.
