1. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed a new, much stricter public charge rule that could dramatically harden adjustment of status (green card) applications. 2. Under the proposed rule, immigration officers will be able to count almost any means-tested government benefit ever received by you or your household as a negative factor. 3. Common benefits now at risk of being used against you include Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), CHIP, Section 8 or public housing assistance, and many others. 4. Even a strong Affidavit of Support (Form I-864) from a sponsor may no longer sufficiently protect applicants the way it does under current rules. 5. The changes will especially impact mixed-status families, people with any past benefit use, and anyone whose financial situation is not rock-solid. 6. The rule is not final yet, but once it is published and takes effect, it will apply immediately — applicants are urged to consult an experienced immigration attorney now and consider filing before the rule becomes law. 🎙️ New to streaming or looking to level up?
