It gives me the opportunity to go back in time and meet these amazing and legendary artists, whether they're still alive in my present time or are no long with us, and I get to collaborate with them by replacing the original producers of an iconic song and getting to re-imagine how I would have approached it OR to put two or more artists together in unexpected combinations, whose individual songs seem to fit each other well, whether their songs were created around the same time or existed in two completely different eras, and even in different genres. Like I'm doing a musical version of Marvel's "What If..." series 😂 (hmmm 🤔). So, let's say I went back in time to the year 1990 to be the catalyst and link up house music legend, Joseph Longo III (better known as his alter egos, "Pal Joey" or "#Soho") with 90s Hip Hop legends, Dres and Mr. Lawnge of the Black Sheep, around the time when the two of them would create two of the biggest club bangers of all time; hard to debate that when if either song is played, even today, and dance floors fill up immediately! Finding them wouldn't be too difficult since these guys were all NYC-based and released their iconic tracks one after the other ("#HotMusic" on a 1990 vinyl maxi-single, and "#TheChoiceisYours - Revisited" on #BlackSheep's 1991 debut album). Interestingly, both songs should have come out the same year but Black Sheep's label had to delay it by another year because of sample clearance issues. It was actually because of this delay that producer, Mr. Lawnge, later had another idea that differed from the original version of "The Choice is Yours" they were gonna drop as a single, and then created the "revisited" version, so by the time the album was finally greenlighted and the label asked them for the original "The Choice is Yours" as the next single, Black Sheep told them "no" and gave them the other one, instead, insisting they release the alternate, new version...which really was the best (and now iconic) choice. Destiny? But what if this time, while the Black Sheep were waiting for the clearances, I "bumped" into them, chatted with them about dope records to sample they hadn't heard of before, and somehow got them to come with me to crate-dig at a particular record store in Manhattan where I knew Joseph/Soho would be at, and then introduce them all and eventually get Soho to let us preview his test pressing of “Hot Music” (ask #Dres to rhyme his “Choice…” verses over it while it's playing) and then suggest that Soho add that as a vocal/rap version to that "#Jazz Mix" on the B-Side of his vinyl before he presses it for release; you know…that obscure song he created from a 3-second sample from a 1986 #WyntonMarsalis jazz record. He'd probably be down since he already produced a #HipHop song for Boogie Down Productions' 'Edutainment' album that dropped that year as well, so why not one more for this new & talented duo that some strange guy with oddly a lot of knowledge about samples and both of them introduced him to. 😇 lol . . I wonder how that combination would turn out 🤔😉 #90shiphop #oldschoolhiphop #nyhiphop #mashupremix #housemusic #oldschoolhouse #housedance
