Video opens with Willow on the nest incubating on the foggy morning. She rises to care for her egg. Later, Willow rises and her egg is not in view. As Willow is preening her front/right, the egg drops to the nest. Willow then cares for her egg. Egg views from the rest of the day are included. There is a lot of speculation as to what is going on with the egg. Here is what we do know: the egg is past the expected hatch date, and will not be hatching. We all have opinions on what we are seeing, and I understand, as I also have opinions on what we are seeing. Nothing we are seeing with the egg will change the outcome of this season, which is a "failed" season. A "successful" season means there is at least one fledge from the nest. All nests have "failed" seasons, whether is is the loss of eggs, nestlings, mate, nest site, etc. Even when a pair is not successful, we learn from watching what takes place moving forward. Willow and Gus's egg has passed the expected hatch window of 30-37 days. We now watch to see how long she will continue incubating. Willow continues to care for her egg, and Gus continues to protect and provide for Willow. Our questions will be answered as we continue to watch their story unfold. Time stamps below, if interested. Great Horned Owl: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/G... Gular fluttering: With the warm Florida temperatures, the owls use gular fluttering to keep cool/thermoregulate. Gular fluttering uses open mouth breathing, rapidly vibrating the moist membranes, which causes evaporation and heat loss. Time Stamps: Provided in DVR time; actual time is on the cam clock. 00:00. Willow lays egg #1 (single egg season) 2-18-26 Day 38; egg #1 is past the hatch window 11-30-25: This is the eagle nest of Bald Eagles Blaze and Skye, located in SW Florida. Blaze is not here this season (has not been seen in months), and Skye has not yet bonded with a new male. There have been multiple eagles of varying ages in the territory, and some chasing between males vying for the territory. Without a bonding/bonded eagle pair, the nest was not being used by eagles. There are six cams with amazing views, including two cams with views of the water. Multiple species of birds can be seen on a daily basis, as well as alligators, turtles, and the cattle on the farm. Varying ages of eagles are seen on a daily basis, perching, fishing, bathing, and going about their daily activity. If you have not seen the Eagle Country cams, please check them out! The live chat is open 24/7 on the nest cam with an excellent team of moderators. This is a great place to learn about eagle behavior!
