Depthcharge is a black-and-white submarine simulator arcade game released in September 1977 by Gremlin Industries. It was one of the earliest thematic action games for the Sega VIC Dual hardware system. Players control a surface destroyer and must drop depth charges to sink submarines passing beneath them to earn the highest score within a 90-second time limit. The destroyer moves left and right; two dedicated buttons drop charges from either the left or right side of the ship. Up to four submarines appear at varying depths. Deeper submarines are worth more points (ranging from 10 to 90). Submarines release mines that float to the surface. If the player's ship is hit, their score is halved, and they are temporarily penalized. Scoring 500 points or more awards a 45-second time extension.
