The Parting Glass, Performed on Fiddle, Piano Forte, and Flageolet

A lot of what many people in the West think of as old music comes from only the last two to three hundred years. Older than even Bach, however, is "The Parting Glass." The Parting Glass is a traditional Scottish tune dating back at least 400 years. It is a farewell song for when a friend is about to travel or has passed. Even though it's far from the oldest surviving piece of music, it's fitting that after centuries of change, what remains is The Parting Glass. This rendition was performed at Celtic Celebration 2025 at Old Sturbridge Village by Aidan Griffith on the flageolet, Rachel Middaugh on the fiddle, and Alan Thompson on the piano forte.
