Our journey begins in a village in Purnia, where we spoke to locals about the ongoing SIR confusion. Villagers told us large numbers of names were removed across different party lines, irrespective of literacy or affiliation. Many of these names have now been re-included after submitting documents, with help from a few government workers who assisted roughly 500 people in filling Form 6 for fresh applications. From there, we travel to Pirpainti (Bhagalpur), where it is said that ~1,020 acres were leased to Adani group for ₹1 per acre, per year, also covered and publicly exposed by Raghav Trivedi ( from Molitics) . On the ground, farmers told us their core issue dates back to 2011, when acquisition for a thermal power project was proposed. Many farmers say they’ve been fighting since 2014 because compensation was either unpaid or uneven (even brothers with similar land report different payouts), and land was later leased out despite unresolved grievances. The farmers stress they are not against a thermal project; they want fair relocation, proper compensation, and employment guarantees. They also allege the “Swechha” (voluntary land giving) 30% incentive wasn’t provided.
