Former FirstEnergy executives Chuck Jones and Mike Dowling have been indicted on federal charges tied to Ohio's largest bribery and money laundering scheme, to date. Legally Speaking, these are the first federal charges anyone from the company has faced, in connection with the more than $60 million scheme. Former CEO Jones and former senior vice president of external affairs Dowling, who already face state charges related to this same case, are now charged with racketeering conspiracy. The allegations they face include using their positions at FirstEnergy to offer, accept, and pay bribes; launder money; and tamper with witnesses and information. The indictment says they used a dark money organization called Energy Pass-Through to funnel money to public officials, including but not limited to former Ohio Speaker of the House Larry Householder. Householder is serving a 20-year federal sentence for his role in passing House Bill 6, which was a bailout of two FirstEnergy nuclear power plants and two Ohio Valley Electric Corporation (OVEC) coal plants, with one of those coal plants operating in Indiana. OVEC is a company headquartered in Piketon, Ohio, and is jointly owned by several parent electrical utilities. Stephanie Haney reports: https://www.wkyc.com/article/life/leg...
