The Morris Minor At Hampton Downs - Classic Trials - TACCOC Feb 2026

A couple of laps around Hampton Downs in my Morris Minor! I entered it in the Classic Regularity Trials at the TACCOC summer sprint event. The Minor has a mildly tuned Morris Marina 1300 engine and Morris Marina disk brakes. Suspension is pretty much standard. Best lap time was around 1:53 so not going to break any track records! The speedo is under-reading. Top speed on the straight was 120 kph (according to the GPS) which reads as 60 mph. The disk brakes are better than the original drums but still prone to overheating so I was very gentle on the braking. I think the biggest limitation is the lack of a racing seat. It's hard to corner well when you struggle to stay in the seat! Despite not being very fast, the Minor is great fun to drive around the track. It's quite enthusiastic about tight corners, although the rear end can be a bit wayward.
