Christopher Ajluni is running for Congress as an Independent in Arizona’s 1st District with a simple goal: prove politics can still work for ordinary people. His campaign refuses corporate PAC money and is powered by volunteers and small dollar supporters who are tired of watching lobbyists and wealthy donors shape policy while working families struggle. Christopher grew up in Iowa as the grandchild of immigrants from Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine. His family’s story, from Ellis Island to rebuilding their lives in the United States, shaped his belief that opportunity should exist for everyone willing to work for it. His father worked as a pediatrician and his mother worked in public relations for Iowa Governor Robert Ray before leaving her career to raise their family. They taught him the importance of hard work, responsibility, and helping the community around you. After spending thirty years in Iowa, Christopher moved to Arizona seven years ago and quickly made it home. Professionally, he worked in science and financial services, helping families build financial stability and plan for their futures. That experience gave him a close look at the economic pressures facing working people and how difficult it has become for many families to get ahead. Christopher also served as Board Chair for Azahir, a nonprofit supporting Palestinian refugee children in northern Lebanon through education, psychosocial support, sports, and cultural programs. That work reinforced his belief that policy decisions have real consequences for communities both at home and abroad. Frustrated by a political system dominated by fundraising and special interests, Christopher decided to run as an Arizona Independent Party candidate focused on solutions rather than party loyalty. His platform includes universal healthcare, affordable housing, fair wages, campaign finance reform, humane immigration policy, and evidence based policymaking on science and public health. In this interview, Christopher talks about what inspired him to run, how a member of Congress can influence local communities, how Arizonans are being affected by national policies, and why he chose to run as an Independent.
