Recorded live (unedited) on October 5th, 2024 at the Light Recital Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. This performance was part of a Faculty Recital featuring new and emerging works for trombone and bass trombone by Carson King-Fournier, and was the second piece on the program. Dr. Carson King-Fournier currently serves as the Assistant Professor of Trombone at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He holds degrees from the Juilliard School, Northwestern University, and the University of Minnesota. His principal teachers include Joseph Alessi, Michael Mulcahy, R. Douglas Wright, Kari Sundström, and Dr. John Tranter. Dr. King-Fournier has performed with a variety of ensembles including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the United States Military Academy Band at West Point among others. He regularly performs in a multitude of styles, and on alto, tenor, bass, and contrabass trombones, euphonium, bass trumpet, and sackbut. Dr. King-Fournier is a Bach Trombone Artist. About Mourning Dove (2023), the composer shares the following background: 'Mourning Dove for Trombone and Piano was inspired by an incident I witnessed in our backyard. One day, an adorable baby mourning dove, too young to fly, fell into our backyard. I thought he would surely die, but the mother dove showed up and sat beside him for three days, even through a storm. After three days they both flew away. This piece is about the struggle, perseverance, hope, love, encouragement, and ultimate victory that I saw in the mother/baby dove duo. I hope you enjoy it.'
