We spent two days in India's holy city Varanasi, city of Lord Shiva. We were nervous to visit this place and it's quite intense, especially due to its burning ghats, where people are openly cremated due to the hindu belief of breaking the cycle of reincarnation if your ashes are then spread in the holy Ganges river. We saw a lot - cows, traffic, bodies burning, snakes, owls, dead cows in the water, but also got to experience the vibrancy and spirituality that makes Varanasi a very special place that we feel privileged to have experienced. Definitely read up on it and take the time to learn about the place, and immerse yourself in it - you'll have fun and learn a lot, but be prepared that it's no luxury ride, but an authentic, unique experience.
