Gaming PC or Mobile VR? Why I Chose Quest 3 + ROG Ally Instead

Is it smarter to build a gaming PC, or does mobile VR actually deliver more value in 2026? With 64GB DDR5 RAM prices approaching the cost of a Meta Quest 3, I decided to test whether choosing mobile VR over a traditional gaming PC upgrade makes more sense. In this video, I pair a Meta Quest 3 with an ASUS ROG Ally and test real-world PC VR performance. At first, running VR through the ROG Ally was barely playable, with frame rates sitting between 12 and 15 FPS. However, after optimizing Steam Link settings, manually increasing bandwidth, lowering encode video size, adjusting VRAM allocation in Armoury Crate to 12GB, and running the device at full 35W near a WiFi 7 router, performance improved dramatically to 35–50 FPS depending on the title.
