Ensuring Equity and Compassion for Animals | Mariam Chkhikvadze | TEDxIBEuropeanSchool

This talk will challenge the audience to reconsider what equity truly means in the context of animal care. How can we ensure that every animal—whether a pet, a stray, or part of a wildlife population—has access to quality care and a life free from suffering? By advocating for continuous veterinary education, improving shelter conditions, and introducing feeding machines for stray animals, Mariam offers a hopeful vision for a future where compassion for animals is integrated into every aspect of society. Mariam is a 16-year-old professional tennis player at the European School with a passion for animal welfare. Inspired by her love for animals and the loss of her dog to an undiagnosed illness, she advocates for better care and equity in animal healthcare. Her dream is to build Georgia’s largest and most well-equipped animal shelter, combining her future medical career with her dedication to improving the lives of animals. Mariam has volunteered with shelters and animal welfare groups and is developing solutions to help stray animals.
