Sabrina, thank you so much for agreeing to help me create this and bring your expertise to it. I am continually inspired by your work ethic and also your desire to make meaningful art. Thank you for not judging my idea, or me is this process. This would still be a little seed in my head had you not said yes. Thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing this to life. Secondly, you guys!?! How amazing is this SCORE?! The music was created by my extremely talented friend, Spencer Creaghan, who also agreed to help me birth this baby. Thank you for being so kind and understanding and adding so much to our little short. We made this short film to submit to the Moment Invitational Film Festival. They are holding a contest for the last film to be screened at their festival. Part of the contest rules was that we had to shoot the ENTIRE project, ON A PHONE. That is right people, this little baby that you see before you was shot entirely on a phone. Why a film about depression? Okay, here is where I am going to get a little deep on you. I’ve been going through some big emotional shifts in the last month. I’ve realized that, I, even though seemingly open minded and compassionate, have never extended love to the worst parts of me. I’ve always been very horrible to that depressed woman, when she decides to show herself. I’ve felt shame for being depressed, and guilty when the ones I love couldn’t “cheer me up”. For a very long time, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with the Winny in a depressive state, would hate when she’d show her face and would hate her more after she’d left. What I am now realizing is that girl doesn’t deserve how I’ve treated her. She deserves patience, and love, and kindness. It’s not ‘Positive Winny’s’ job to fix her, or get rid of her. It’s my job to love me, all parts of me, including this part. I don’t want to be ashamed of that part of me anymore. And creating this was in a little way a first step in that direction. I feel very liberated and excited to be more honest. I realize that to many of you this is going to come as a shock, and I want to ensure you that I am not currently in a state of depression and this film was made with a lot of joy and love. However, if I was currently in that state, that would be okay too, and that is part of what I’m learning right now. This was my first short film project that I have ever completed start to finish. I’ve had a lot of ideas but I’ve never executed based on fear of it being stupid or not looking good or all sorts of other excuses. Even in the process of shooting this I doubted myself about FIVE MILLION TIMES. So putting it out into the world is a pretty crazy experience. It is not perfect, and I learned a lot technically, and emotionally throughout. I’m feeling pretty proud in this moment. The words: It never just hits me like a ton of bricks I wish it would At least then I’d have a fighting chance of saving myself Instead it sneaks in, easily, quietly. When I’m not paying attention. It disguised itself as a bad day, at first. Latching on to my ankles. When did my legs get so heavy? I’m slipping. It’s already won and I’m still clueless. The fire is too far away. I can’t feel its heat. I can’t feel. I’m falling. How did I get here? This isn’t my world. Those aren’t my eyes. Oh. It’s you. You’ve found me again.
