Today on Houston Matters, filmmaker Ken Burns says the thirteen colonies uniting in rebellion to win their independence from England might be the most important moment in world history since the birth of Christ. Burns talks about his new series “The American Revolution” and explains why he feels the revolution was so pivotal in human history. “The American Revolution” debuts November 16 on Houston Public Media, TV 8, and PBS stations across the country. Also, a new survey from Texas Southern University examines which racial and socioeconomic groups are most aware of the new school voucher program and which are most in support of it, with some surprising results. We learn more from Michael Adams, TSU professor of public affairs and founding director of the Barbara Jordan Public Policy Research and Survey Center. Plus, Aryn Ward tells us about The Good Medicine Indigenous Music Festival. From the U.S. Mint halting production of the penny, to the world’s largest cruise ship docking in Galveston, and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” hitting the top ten again, we break down The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of the Week with Raúl Ramos, Joy Sewing, and Natalie Arceneaux. Houston Matters is an essential daily guide to the people, places, issues, and ideas that define Greater Houston. Hosted by Craig Cohen. Houston Matters streams live on YouTube weekdays from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. CT, and airs live on Houston Public Media’s News 88.7.
