Waylon, the highly nervous Australian Cattle Dog has been quite the challenge. Hls anxiety/insecurity/fear issues cause him to struggle with holding a simple Down or Place command without trying to escape, and also cause him to try to veer off and away (escape again) when working on his Recalls or Follows. Luckily, we've worked with many dogs just like Waylon, and so we're leveraging all our best insights and approaches to help this sweet, but extremely worried guy to find his way. That said, if you have a dog like Waylon, be sure to do your homework when choosing a trainer. There's an extremely delicate balance to be struck between pushing when needed and hand holding/backing off when needed, and many training companies have a rather one-dimensional approach to how they train dogs-meaning, they all are trained precisely the same. I love guys like this because they challenge you to be absolutely 100% on top of your game and to be absolutely 100% tuned into the dog. The answers are there, but only those open to seeing every aspect of the dog, and who are able to modulate their approach and presentation, will find them.
