Bangladesh Army is one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping operations. According to the un peacekeeping forces by country 2020, Bangladesh's military and police combinedly sent 6,731 un peacekeeping forces to different African and Middle East countries. Which gives the tag to Bangladesh: the Largest UN Peacekeeping Force. Bangladesh Army was the first deployed in 1988. When Bangladeshi Peacekeeper participated in two operations such as UNIIMOG in Iraq and UNTAG in Namibia. The former President of Bangladesh, Late Lieutenant General Hussain Muhammad Ershad initiated UN Mission deployments. In 1988 Bangladesh Army for the first time associate with UNIIMOG with 15 military observers. Later, as part of the UNIKOM force deployed to Kuwait during the Gulf War. Bangladesh Army sent a large mechanized army infantry brigade of approximately 2,193 personnel. In 1994, approximately 1200+ Bangladeshi peacekeepers were besieged by Bosnian Serbs in Bosnia after replacing a French contingent during the UNPROFOR operations. Since then, the Bangladesh Army has been involved in up to 30+ different UNPKO's operations. This video-based on the peacekeeping activities of the Bangladesh Army in Congo. In 2005, 9 Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed in congo war. Bangladesh already has 1600+ troops deployed in the congo. As of October 2014, Bangladeshi forces contributed the highest number of total personnel to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations. In 2015, the Bangladesh army deployed the first all-female peacekeeping unit in Haiti, which composed of 160 Muslim female troops. Bangladesh Army is able to improve its international reputation and build "soft power". That enables Bangladesh to claim relevant positions for its diplomats in UN organizations. Thus, Bangladesh wins both national pride and diplomatic benefits by sending troops to UN operations.
