Bangladesh Army is one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping operations. Which gives the tag to Bangladesh: the Largest UN Peacekeeping Force. Bangladesh Army was the first deployed in 1988. When Bangladeshi Peacekeeper participated in two operations such as UNIIMOG in Iraq and UNTAG in Namibia. The former President of Bangladesh, Late Lieutenant General Hussain Muhammad Ershad initiated UN Mission deployments. In 1988 Bangladesh Army for the first time associate with UNIIMOG with 15 military observers. Later, as part of the UNIKOM force deployed to Kuwait during the Gulf War. Bangladesh Army sent a large mechanized army infantry brigade of approximately 2,193 personnel. Bangladesh Army is able to improve its international reputation and build "soft power". That enables Bangladesh to claim relevant positions for its diplomats in UN organizations.
