**PLEASE SUBSCRIBE AND HIT LIKE** - THANKS! I recently brought these home with the intension of keeping the best one, with the intended primary purpose of being a kick out mic. I expected the UT FET 47 to run away with this race but I'm surprised to say it's close and I'm a bit perplexed as a result. Both mics are heavy and feel solid. For the money I wish the UT FET 47 came with a wood box and a dust cover. The packing is flimsy and I wouldn't expect it to last through years of use. Even if it was just a cardboard box, something more substantial seems like an obvious necessity. The mic itself feels rock solid however and looks very impressive. On the flip side the WA-47jr comes in a larger, more solid cardboard box, on the same quality level as some AKG mics I own like the D112 and D12vr. Those boxes I don't worry much about falling apart via regular use. Where the UT FET 47 only comes with the box and the mic, the WA-47jr is also accompanied by a shock-mount, hard mount and storage pouch that can make due for a dust cover if you were leaving the mic out for any extended period. I listened to a lot of demos before I decided I'd need to hear both in person before making a choice, but the conclusions I had approximated mostly came to pass. In comparison the WA-47jr has a slightly rounder, warmer sound, which translates in my ear as perhaps a more vintage sound. The UT FET 47 on the other hand is slightly more forward, with more punch. Something that translates in my ear as a more modern sound. These differences are relatively subtle, but obvious listening through a DAW and good monitors. While making this demonstration video, listening through a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones as I worked, the differences were much harder to detect. Also of note is that the volume of the mics are nearly identical. I really expected the UT FET 47 to run away with this and it did not. It's a beautiful mic, but the price difference is $500 and that's a considerable amount to pay just for "the look" and for a workhorse kick out mic. Before I make a final call I'm going to test them on a couple more sources which I probably would never actually use them on just to see if my opinion evolves.
