After viewing more than twenty-five houses, we finally found the one. The journey to get there was certainly interesting—at times an emotional rollercoaster—but nothing compared to the feeling of finally holding the keys in our hands. It felt very different from when we received the keys to our flat in Aldershot. In Japan, life couldn’t truly begin until we had somewhere to live. Finding a home wasn’t just practical; it was symbolic. It marked the real start of our new chapter, and that made it a very big deal. We did end up going far over budget—borrowing money and buying a house that was three times what we had originally planned to spend. Because of that, even nearly two years later, we still haven’t been able to fully furnish it. Gradually, piece by piece, we will turn our house into our home. That, too, is a journey—one that feels just as meaningful and exciting. As I often tell my daughter, sometimes you have to be patient.
