Illegal Brick Kilns Demolished Under Tight Security in Astaranga, Puri | Odisha News

Acting on district administration directives, the Astaranga Tehsildar and Additional Tehsildar conducted raids with one platoon of police force and fire services personnel present at the site. Authorities used bulldozers to demolish illegally constructed brick structures that were allegedly operating in violation of pollution control norms and government regulations. The kilns were reportedly functioning on government land and causing severe environmental pollution due to smoke emissions. With the onset of summer, residents complained of extreme heat and suffocation caused by kiln smoke, disrupting daily life. The action comes in line with National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders banning traditional soil-based brick kilns in the state. As per regulations, only fly ash brick manufacturing units approved by the Pollution Control Board and state government are permitted. The government has also mandated restrictions, including: No brick kilns within 1 km of habitation areas No kilns within 500 meters of public roads Only permanent chimney-based kilns allowed The administration has warned of strict action against violators.
