http://cctvcamerapros.com/BNC-Twist - This video demonstrates how to connect a twist-on BNC connector to RG59 and RG6 coax cable. BNC twist on connectors are a popular choice among professional video cable installers (including CCTV security installers). When done properly, twist-on BNC connectors are just a secure as any other type of BNC connector. It is important to strip the coax cable to the proper length and make sure that the connector is securely tightened, but not over-tightened. Follow these steps to attach a BNC twist on. 1) Start with a freshly cut end of RG59 or RG6 cable. 2) Make sure you know the recommended length to strip the two different cuts on the coax. In our testing, if you use the TL-22 cable stripper and BNC connectors that CCTV Camera Pros supplies, the tool does the measuring for you and the exact length in 9/16 of an inch. 3) Be sure not to remove the copper braiding. It is OK if some of the braiding get removed, but not more than 25%. 4) Press the trimmed end of the cable into the connector and make sure that you feel the inside of the connector grab on to the coax core. 5) Press and turn clockwise to tighten. 6-10 turns should be fine. The connector should be snug but do not feel like you need to over tighten. Note: RG-59 cable was used in this video because it is industry standard for CCTV video surveillance installations. However, the process is the same for RG6 cable. Be sure to get the proper BNC connector based on the gauge of cable you are using. RG59 and RG6 BNC connectors are different sizes.
