On this food trail, I went from coastal Bhatkal to the streets of Bengaluru to figure out which one deserves the crown. In Bhatkal, I dug into plates of fish and prawn biryani — light, fragrant, and seafood-forward, especially the prawns that stood out with their freshness. Then it was time for Bengaluru’s iconic Muslim bhai biryani at the ninety-year-old Taj Hotel, where the mutton, ginger garlic, and short-grain rice created a completely different vibe. Finally, Chickpet’s donne biryani house brought me chicken and mutton biryani served in the traditional green leaf. Herby, spicy, and deeply meaty, it was the perfect finish.
