The 9-suit extended deck was our project to make it possible to play some favourite card games with more people. The deck contains 9 suits, in 3 colours, with 17 cards per suit. In addition to the 4 traditional playing card suits (hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs), it contains cards in 5 new suits, with one extra black and red suits, and three all new blue suits. In addition to the traditional cards (2-10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace, and one joker in each colour), each suit in the deck also has 4 new face cards. I’m still not quite sure what came over me, but I had an idea for a video. When designing the deck, we had thought carefully about the design of the existing suits, and how to extend that in an elegant way to our new suits. The red suits should have pointy bottoms, the black suits should have stemmed bottoms, and our new blue suits would have rounded bottoms. I was shocked to find the video had hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok and Reels. As of writing this script, it has 192 thousand views on TikTok, and another 162 thousand views on Reels.
