Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill

The PCSC Bill has been making its way through Parliament over the last year. This important new legislation will bring some important reforms to the criminal justice system, making people safer, giving police the powers they need and modernising courts. One of the aspects of the PCSC Bill that has attracted the most attention has been the proposed new measures to tackle extreme protests. In a democracy, the right to protest is vitally important, but over the past couple of years we have seen protestors disrupt vital infrastructure and prevent people from going to work and even block ambulances from getting to hospital. The new measures aim to balance the right to protest with the rights of members of the public to go about their daily lives.
