This decision came after the law, effective on April 8, sparked nationwide protests and unrest, including deadly violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. The Chief Justice-led bench also ordered that the 'waqf by user' provision should not be denotified until the next hearing on May 5. The Centre assured no appointments to Waqf boards would be made, and the status of waqf properties would remain unchanged.
