~Activism and Photography Series, Part 2~ In this video, I go over tips for activists hoping to pick up a camera and start documenting the movements that they participate in. I cover a wide range of topics, including your role as an activist photographer, etiquette and best practices, composition tips, and some areas of concern to consider while you are out photographing a demonstration. The information in this video is the product of my own experience photographing demonstrations, as well as media trainings from different Vancouver-based activist groups, interviews with fellow protest photographers, and extensive research on the topic that I conducted for this video. The purpose of this video is NOT to provide you with a strict set of rules and regulations. The purpose is to present a set of guidelines and best practices for you to consider while photographing a protest or demonstration. The utility of each piece of information I provide in this video can be assessed on a case by case basis, and there are of course many situations in which many of these pieces of advice may not apply. Once you are equipped with this information, you should use your own discretion to determine how to apply it.
