Like anything in this world, when the old are too old, we naturally make room for the young and new. Bourdain is no longer the chain smoking, drinking, cursing man he once was. He is older. He is married. He has kids. His audience has grown with him and his content no longer captures the attention of younger generations. People who have become fans on the tailspin of No Reservation onto Parts Unknown have been torn between the posh universe he takes viewers through and the fiscally challenged world that is our own. Personally, I don’t know too many professional chefs who have written over 5 books, been on several TV shows, made millions of dollars and been educated on 247 types of cheese. In fact I don't know any, personally, and that creates a dissonance between viewer and host. However, I do know several people who work 9 to 5 jobs, have drinks at casual bars on the weekends, eat at their favorite local spots, and travel whenever they can. I am one of those people. My friends are those people. And this show, LOCALS ONLY, is one of those people. The aim of this show is to create the common thread between reality and possibility. To make the food and travel that appears on this show tangible. I won’t be going to a fine French restaurant and ordering duck l’orange, I’ll be heading to the mom and pop shops that have amazing hand crafted beers and even finer crafted meals. Made with authenticity and adoration, for their food, and their city. Then, as travelers who love to truly experience: we learn. We learn not only about the restaurant, but about the owner and the town itself. Because when you travel, it is not just about the sights or the food but it is also about the culture. To really be a local, you have to experience and respect the world around you, as locals do. Eat their food. Drink their beer. Walk in their shoes. And spend money like a local, which means ditching the duck l’orange and finding the best eats for the best price. LOCALS ONLY is a food and travel show, but it’s not only a food and travel show. It is something unique, new, fresh, something that has learned from its predecessors and taken one step further into the world in which our audiences are awaiting. Our audiences are smart and they want smart TV. So let’s bridge the gap between entertainment, education, food and travel. Let’s feel like locals in a city we have never been. Let’s learn not only where the best food in town is, but where that food came from and who made it. Let’s try the best drinks, traverse in the most effective ways and above all else, let’s have a good time doing it. I hope you enjoy, LOCALS ONLY. Scott Bender
