I’m about 500 pages into this book as of posting and will likely do a proper review. In the meantime, I hope you’ll enjoy this reconstructed narrative that I put together with archival footage and the game call. As one of many dorks who grew up at the crossroads of extreme interest in baseball and novels, I’ve really enjoyed this book and especially this prologue. I think one of my favorite things is when my favorite writers write about their favorite sport. See also e.g. anything David Foster Wallace writes on tennis. Editorial Decisions If you’re following along in the book, you’ll notice I made a slight change at about 30 seconds in. DeLillo originally slices up the “It’s gonna be” and “I believe.” But in the the original recording those two parts sound better as one phrase together. So I just made it work with the original. DeLillo also includes an extra “I don’t believe it” in his narrative that’s not there, so I just repeated the first one.
