During during urination in kids is due to multiple causes. It can be due to any local irritation in that particular region because kids they go to school and there they may not practice proper genital hygiene and proper washing of the genital area and itching and minor scratches may cause more pain while urination. Another cause is worm infestations and can cause lot of itching and irritation in that area. If there is any infection in the urinary tract, that is the urethra, or urinary bladder or kidney. They will have symptoms like fever, chills, inability to feed, these types of systemic symptoms will be there, that is when you have to take the child to the doctor to assess for infection. So how to prevent this pain while micturition? Initially is home remedies like washing the genital area with lukewarm water. Avoid any antiseptics, Dettol, savlon because that itself can cause irritation to soft and raw area. Another thing is keep the child in a soak. Keep the baby in a tub of lukewarm, water with rock salt for 10 – 15 minutes. That will give comfort to that particular area. Increase the fluids, that will give diluted urine and the child will not have pain during micturition. Constipation also causes to some extent causes pain during micturition. So lot of fluids, good diet, high fiber diet with fruits and vegetables is suggested to decrease the constipation.
