This week Kevin Brooker, UVLT Land Steward, takes us through his process of monitoring UVLT held conservation easements in the winter time. Making sure you're prepared and well dressed for the cold and wet weather is one of the most important steps in getting ready for the outdoors during the winter. When landowners conserve their land with UVLT, they entrust the organization with a duty of stewardship — the responsibility to defend the terms of the easement in perpetuity. One of the most fundamental obligations of UVLT's stewardship duty is the annual inspection of all conserved lands. The majority of these inspections are made with 'boots on the ground' visits which are conducted by our land stewards like Kevin, and a great group of volunteer easement monitors. Over the last few years, UVLT has also invested in remote monitoring a portion of our conservation portfolio with a combination of aerial and satellite imagery. This helps our team greatly with ensuring all 570+ conservation properties get monitored every year.
