"Remembrance of Things Past" - an improvised guitar solo by Max Ridgway, recorded on October 11, 2010. The title, "Remembrance of Things Past" (also known as In Search of Lost Time, or À la recherche du temps perdu in French) is a semi-autobiographical novel in seven volumes by Marcel Proust. In my interpretation I have reduced the seven volumes of Proust to seven minutes of music. The overriding theme of Proust's work is memory, and he employs signs and symbols as a way of understanding and recapturing that which has been lost by preserving its memory as a work of art, thereby saving it from ultimate destruction. The nature of art is another recurring theme in the novel. Proust believed that every person is capable of being an artist and that the experiences of life may be transformed by preserving them as works of art. This I have also attempted to do.
