The Gregory Family has been farming off Dobbins Pike in Gallatin since 1787, but now the American Revolution-era farm family is fighting for their land thanks to a new power line proposal to catch up with rapid growth in the city, county leaders tell FOX 17 News. The Tennessee Valley Authority paused this power line proposal through the Gregory's land, but John Gregory and Sumner County leaders want a permanent solution on the TVA seeking an alternate route. FOX 17 News' Johnny Maffei introduced us to the Gregory's last week. Sumner County Commissioner Jeremy Mansfield says this power line is to supply the new housing developments in Gallatin. Maffei has been following the 10,000 new single family homes, townhomes, condos, and apartments coming to the Sumner County city. Mansfield says the growth is "irresponsible," and wants county leaders to have a say because of the impacts beyond Gallatin lines, and Gallatin Coty Council extending its territory through annexation measures. "This really comes down to irresponsible growth and reckless rezonings that happened, which is in the case over here for a farmland that was spot annexed by the city of Gallatin," Mansfield tells Maffei. "And I voted against that in 2020 when it came forward to the county commission to allow Gallatin to even do that because they have to have an interlocal agreement with the county to be able to run utilities and come across county property. So it was a spot annexation, just an island." There's a bill right now making its way through the state legislature that would let county leaders have a say in how some of the growth is managed. It goes to the House Cities and Counties Subcommittee on Wednesday. https://fox17.com/news/local/239-year... _______________ Follow! Like! Share! Subscribe!
