Transcript: [Music] after the surgery to manage any discomfort you will be prescribed anti-inflammatories and pain medication if needed understand that there are several things we do during your procedure with local anesthetic to help minimize any discomfort that you may have in order to reduce any swelling and maximize your chance for a speedy recovery please relax as much as possible the first few days after the procedure you may also use ice and the provided scrotal support to best care for your incision site i recommend that you leave your surgical dressing on for 48 hours after the procedure and do not allow it to become submerged in any water after the 48 hour mark you may remove your dressing and take a shower as normal please do not submerge your incision site until you are cleared by me and stay away from any hot tubs oceans pools or lakes during your healing process i will instruct you to familiarize yourself with the location and position of your pump i will also recommend that you mobilize this pump by pulling down on it gently daily once cleared to help maximize the best position in your scrotum to help best facilitate a smooth healing process for you i recommend that you do not lift anything over 20 pounds for three to four weeks we also don't want any rigorous exercise or straining movements during your recovery after your penile implant procedure you may drive or return to work in just a few short days we do recommend that you are not on pain medication when you return to these activities once you receive your implant it is usually activated and ready for use in just a few short weeks this may be four weeks for some men and six weeks for other men based on the speed of your healing process after your penile implant procedure i would like for you to contact me or my office if you have any changes or concerns about your healing process this includes things like a fever after the procedure drainage or non-healing of your incision separation of that incision or any other redness or concerning factors as well as increased pain that you have concerns about in order to facilitate your best outcome and a smooth healing process after your implant procedure we place several post-operative appointments in place to allow you to be seen in the office and assure you're on the right road the first visit is the day after your procedure of which i remove a drain the second appointment is two weeks after your procedure so that it may check your incision and make sure the pump is in the appropriate location the last visit is usually four to six weeks after your procedure and this is when we activate your implant and send you on your way with a definitive solution for your erectile dysfunction patients can usually begin using their penile implant four to six weeks after their procedure understand this is individualized based on each patient level of comfort and their overall healing process we have put several measures in place for you to contact throughout your recovery process should you have any questions you may certainly call me and my staff at our office you may also contact my surgery scheduler you may contact the hospital or the facility of which we perform your procedure and you may also contact my patient educator to help you with any of your concerns throughout your recovery process [Music]
