This video aims to deliver the fundamental and basic skills and knowledge needed to assemble, paint and weather a small scale kit, using Airfix's Spitfire Mk.I in 1/72 scale model kit. These tools can be considered professional, but this video is about the skills of basic modelling using the correct tools that make the job easier. This video explains my process in the building, painting and weathering of Airfix Spitfire Mk.I in 1/72 scale. I start the video by building the scale model kit using Tamiya and AK Interactive glues and Mr Hobby tools. The key to building the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I in 1/72 scale is to carefully read the instructions using the tutorial as a guide. Take care in assembling the scale model kit so the parts fit accurately and align as intended. To paint the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I in 1/72 scale it is best to use an airbrush. This video covers the airbrush basics so that you can see thinning of paint and application onto the scale model kit. Thinning paint is very important and I explain how to do it using the correct thinners for each paint type. Decals are applied with the aid of Tamiya Mark Fit. This helps conform even the thickest decals onto the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I in 1/72 scale model kit. The final part is the weathering using weathering products and oil paints, weathering washes and finally Pigments. I start the weathering with an enamel wash to bring out the panel lines on the model. I use oil washes & to seal in I use a clear acrylic Matte varnish. Detailed weathering follows using oil paints adding streaks, grime and bleaching. The matte varnish is airbrushed onto the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I in 1/72 scale. This matte varnish helps weathering as the matte finish allows more oil paint to stain the model surface.
