What is a port? It's a small device implanted in the body that provides easy access to the bloodstream. Since chemotherapy drugs are often delivered intravenously, a port allows doctors to seamlessly deliver IV medication and take blood samples through a conduit, eliminating the need to repeatedly search for a vein. Traditionally, a port is placed through an incision near the collar bone. Although this is the easiest way for a doctor to get direct access to the port site, it's not the most beneficial approach for the patient, leaving a visible bulge where the port is located as well as an unsightly scar on the delicate decollete. At Bedford Breast Center, we're proud to provide breast cancer patients with an invisible, hidden scar port placement. By inserting the port through an underarm incision, we're able to still place it in the collarbone area, making it easily accessible, but better concealing the port and scar. https://www.bedfordbreastcenter.com/p...
