Bujumbura served as both the Political and Economic Capital City of Burundi Until Recently in 2018, When the Political Capital City Status was Moved to Gitega. Bujumbura is currently the Economic Capital of Burundi. Bujumbura also serves as Burundi's main port on Lake Tanganyika where exports and imports of goods take place between the capital and Kigoma in Tanzania, and also between Burundi and Kalemi in Congo (Kinshasa). The Bujumbura International Airport which is situated at the Outskirts of the City Serves as the Main Gateway to the City and the Country at Large. From the Airport into the city the Roads are well tarmacked which makes traveling in the city easier and Comfortable. Taxis and minibusses form the main mode of Transport in Bujumbura. Taxis are found almost in every part of the city and are considered the safest mode of Transport.
